This article explains how to create and use the Tableau go to sheet action filter with an example. The go to sheet action filter simply navigates from one sheet to another sheet, dashboard, or story with a mouse click or hover.
We need two sheets to demonstrate the Tableau go to sheet action filter, so we created a pie chart and a bar chart. For this, we used the Sample Superstore Excel sheet. Please visit the Excel Source article to understand the Data Source.
To create the below-shown pie chart, use the Show Me window and add the Category. To Color and Sales Measure to the Angle and Size shelf. Next, add the Sum of Sales and Category dimension to the Label shelf to show the data labels.

Our job is to perform an action on sheets, so we need another sheet apart from the Pie chart. So, adding Sales Measure to the Columns shelf and Sub-Category dimension to the Rows shelf will create a bar chart. Please add Category to the color shelf and Sales to the Label shelf. For the remaining charts in Tableau, please click here.
In Tableau, we have a Worksheet menu, and you can use this Menu to choose the Go to Sheet Action filter option. Otherwise, use the Ctrl+ Shift+A shortcut.
It opens the following window. As you can see, there are no existing action filters. So, click the down arrow beside the Add Action button to choose the Tableau Go to Sheet action filter.
It opens another window called the Add Go to Sheet action to configure the Tableau filter. Please assign the appropriate name to it. Next, choose the source and target sheet using the drop-down menu. Then, choose the Run action option.
In this example, we choose Sheet1 (Pie Chart) as the Source, Sheet2 (Bar Chart) as the target sheet, and Run the action on Select. Once completed, click OK to close the Add Go to Sheet action and Action windows. Please use the Remove button in the Action window to remove the existing go to sheet action filter.
To demonstrate the Tableau Go to Sheet action filter, let me click the Office Supplies pie, and it will automatically go to the Bar Chart (Sheet 2).
The best part is that it will highlight the Sub-Categories belonging to the Office Supplies.
